The math for this portion was some of the most headache-inducing. Figuring out the angles for the roof slope, bird mouths, rafter gussets, and making it all work together was no mean feat.
Chiseling out the slot in the gusset for the ridge beam. Jagermeister hat to the rescue.
The gussets at the top are, of course, multifunction members. They serve to tie the rafters together, but they will also provide housing for Zach to run wiring through the top of the house. With a paddle bit and some conduit, it will provide a nice chase for all the high technology we can stuff in there.
It is a huge weight off to have the roof calculations off the computer, out of my head, and onto physical templates that can be used to create the 20 sets of rafters we will need.
